Pedestrian & cycle bridge over the River Usk at Newport

TACP was commissioned to co-ordinate and prepare an environmental statement in support of a planning application for a landmark pedestrian and cyclebridge over the River Usk at Newport, South Wales. The bridge comprises four stayed masts approximately 67 metres high that form a “derrick crane” type structure. The scheme is the first major project for Newport Unlimited and is part of a large scheme to re-energise the City Centre encompassing the river frontage.
Screening, scoping and environmental assessment stages were undertaken and potential environmental effects were examined on the following receptors:-
- human beings (noise & visual impact)
- wildlife and nature conservation interests
- land use and movement patterns
- landscape
- cultural heritage and archaeology
- water quality and resources
- soils, surface water and groundwater
- transport and traffic
- policies and plans
