NORTH WALES CANCER TREATMENT CENTRE

NORTH WALES

Client: Conwy & Denbighshire NHS Trust

Completed in June 2000 the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre is a unique combination of Interiors, Architecture and Art. The Design of this Multi-million pound project was a response to a complex brief which demanded a careful blending of experience, technical ability and imagination to produce a building which is capable of generating a degree of optimism to the visiting patient and their families.

A sophisticated external appearance has been created by the selection of quality building materials demonstrating its status as a building of technological advancement. The internal spaces, in contrast to the clean lines of the external fabric, use form and colour to calm the soul and stimulate the mind. The integrated artwork crosses the boundaries of Architecture and Interiors linking inside and out, colour and light, imagination and mystery.

Key features of the interior include the careful use of colour to highlight focal points in the building and aid patient orientation. A fully carpeted interior has been included, which is a unique feature in hospital design, but is paramount in comfort and the ambiance it creates. Quality finishes and materials will ensure that the Oncology Unit remains a benchmark for high quality design within the National Health Service.
