Cardiff Bay

South Wales

Client: Cardiff Bay Development Corporation, Grosvenor Waterside & Associated British Ports

TACP has worked over a number of years for CBDC, Grosvenor Waterside and ABP on a range of schemes within the regeneration zone of Cardiff Bay. Consultancy services have ranged from feasibility and masterplanning, to reclamation and detailed landscape design, and includes schemes such as:

Dumballs Road and Cardiff City Centre Fringe
Two planning studies that formed the basis of development proposals for a central area of Cardiff Bay's existing commercial and industrial base, positioned between the Mall and the River Taff, and the interface between the Cardiff City Centre and northern boundary of Cardiff Bay's designated area. The Dumballs Road study included the identification of environmental improvements and the integration of an open space network between residential and commercial sites. The City Centre Fringe involved the development of an urban design strategy along a key gateway site for the city and the bay.

Britannia Park

  • Lord Mayor's Civic Award 1995
  • Cardiff 2000 Environmental Award 1995
TACP was commissioned to design a dock edge park within Cardiff Docks, and were lead consultants working with civil and service engineers and quantity surveyors. Hard and soft landscape detailed designs were prepared which were simple and bold in character, to harmonise and provide a platform for a series of sculptured clay seats by the local artist Gwen Heeny. The commission included extensive liaison with the sculptress and the design of a feature circular paving area.

Landsea Gardens
An urban design and landscape scheme for the harbour frontage as a keynote site within the CBDC’s bayside area. The brief required the accommodation of large numbers of people in a safe manner adjacent to the graving docks and harbour walls within a park, with Landsea House as its centre.
