Royal Military Canal, Hythe

Kent

Client: Shepway District Council

TACP was part of a multi-disciplinary team commissioned by Shepway District Council to develop an initial strategy for a 7km stretch of the Royal Military Canal in Hythe, Kent. A 26km long Scheduled Ancient Monument, the canal was built in the early 19th century to prevent invasion by Napoleon's forces.

TACP carried the scheme through to design and implementation of
a £1 million access and environmental improvement scheme.

The scheme was largely concerned with upgrading existing routes, and respected their historic significance. The scheme also included provision of a footbridge, site furniture, car parks and a War Memorial Garden.
